About the Author

Ronald E. Kleinman, MD, is Physician in Chief of the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Charles Wilder Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Kleinman’s major areas of research interest include gastrointestinal immunology, nutrition support of infants and children, and nutrition and public health policy. He is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, chapters, monographs and 4 textbooks.  Dr. Kleinman was a founder and past president of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.  He has been a member of the Medical Advisory Group on Diet and Nutrition Guidelines in Cancer for the American Cancer Society, the National Cholesterol Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, a member of the National Academy of Medicine committees on Standards for School Meals and Obesity Prevention for young Children, member of the Board of Directors for the David Ortiz Childrens' Fund, the European Biomedical Research Institute Salerno (EBRIS), the ILSI Research Foundation, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF New England Regional Board, the Massachusetts General Hospital Physician Organization and Chair of the Boards for Project Bread and the Global Child Nutrition Foundation. Excellent reference for any RD specializing in Pediatric Nutrition. I have been using this book for my graduate classes and it is my "Holy Grail" for everything pediatric.

ExcellentGood condition and meet my expectations.I strongly recommend.

Packaging is poor due to simple box without protective material inside. The book inside is in fair condition without tearing, small distortion in corner of the book is seen but no problem for reading.

About the Author

David Hatcher Childress, known as the real-life Indiana Jones to the many fans of his books, is a captivating speaker and the author or coauthor of over 25 books. Mr. Childress wastes too many pages (about half the book) describing his living quarters, meals, and transportation. Only about half of the pages describe lost cities and ancient mysteries. I bought this book to learn about lost cities and ancient mysteries — as the title implies; I did not buy it to learn about his travel experience.

While first published in 1986, Childress' book is still a decent compendium of the lost civilizations and legends of South America. As with all in this series, the author uses his travels as a reason to recount and excerpt the tales and legends of others who went before him. He visits some of these locations, but mostly those accessible to all tourists. He's not actually an archaeologist or an Indian Jones type, but like all these books, he allows readers to travel to distant lands as he distills what he has discovered in his studies. He doesn't latch on to strange theories here as much as in some of his other books. Much of interest is revealed such as tunnel systems, potential locations of King Solomon's mines and the disappearance of Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett. What I most enjoy about Childress' books is his cheerful narrative that makes the reader feel as though s/he is along for the ride. Though full of details, Childress' story-telling never gets bogged down. A very fast-paced, enjoyable travelog.

Going to a couple locations this winter that are described in this book and love reading Childress' view on what he saw many years ago. Now let's see if the area has changed much.

This book is about the personal experiences of the author in travelling through South America. The author writes in an interesting and informative style and provides valuable information about the sites he visited. Having travelled to some of the sites he describes, I can say that his information is very accurate. He at least did some investigation into the sites he described. Because of his descxription of some of the sites I have not visited, he has encouraged me to make another trip to South America. I was, however, put off by the descriptions of his casual personal sexual trysts in various cities that could have been left out, as well as his descriptions of his other personal activites.

Fun book to read. Interesting ideas to learn about.

This book helped me gain more insights into my thinking and has very helpful tips on how to change the way I think about things so I feel better about myself and be happier and more satisfied with my life. A good thing I noticed when reading this also is that I am already doing a couple of the things Damon suggests and they do work and it helped to know I am going in the right direction.

I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out how to write my first ever review for any book in the most perfect way. It’s a mental struggle even to write a simple review without thinking too much:) Perfectionism is an addiction that I let myself succumb to. Of all things in life that can suck one’s happiness I think ‘perfectionism’ is the most stealthy one. There are so many things out there to blame for unhappiness and even when you blame yourself for it imagine how difficult it is to accept that you have fallen to your own self beliefs.This is a great book for someone who is struggling in life because of perfectionism. Even for others there are useful things to know. It doesn’t take a lot time to go through the book and this short amount of time would definitely be a time well spent for everyone.This book doesn’t cover a lot of theory or about psychological triggers for perfectionism. However there are references to relevant articles and studies. This is a very short book even so it took a very short time to connect with myself. I think this would be the case with you especially if you are a perfectionist. I could immediately connect to the personal experiences shared by Damon since that’s exactly how perfectionism affects me and also for the reason that my perfectionism doesn’t allow me to be challenged by others easily. I find it very important to learn lessons from someone who has walked the same path in which I am travelling now.I could easily acknowledge the “12 negative impacts of perfectionism” described in part one of this book. It was like someone describing my current experiences in life. Part two of the book helps to evaluate the severity of perfectionism in one’s life. I scored full marks on the pop quiz at the end of the chapter. Let me know if you beat me on that ;)The third and final part of the book is all about action where Damon lists 12 ideas to overcome perfectionism. Again these ideas are covered in very few pages and is to the point. You could clearly see that the focus is on getting someone to start executing them without spend too much time on reading a lot more.I have been following some of the ideas in the last few weeks and have seen a great impact already. Just reading the book has reduced my level of self-criticism. By following few of the ideas I have been able to avoid triggers that let my ‘perfectionist inner critic’ to take control of me. I also have been able to realize when I am under the influence of perfectionist thoughts and pull myself back on track. The same situation few months back would have carried me onto a runaway train. I am slowly working on following the other ideas too and would recommend everyone to give them a try. I know it’s a tough road ahead for us but I am sure Damon has more books in line to revitalize us down the road. Good luck everyone!Thanks Damon for this book. Very comprehensive content! The book is written straight to the point and practical exercises / solutions are included. I strongly recommend this book, whether you may need a guide for self improvement or just look for a reference for human studies.

In my opinion, this is one of the best books on perfectionism that I have read. Easy read with concrete examples and exercises that you can practice to work through to slowly rid yourself of a perfectionistic mindset. I believe that it is worth reading multiple times.

This book was extremely helpful to me. It helped me to see my perfectionism for what it is...a hinderance to accomplishing more, as well as a hinderance to experiencing freedom and joy in life.

This is the third book by this author I’ve read, and so far all resonate well with practical examples and tips...10/10.

I have learned that I am not a perfectionist as defined by this author, not at all. I always thought I was, but maybe I am "just" OCD. I feel so badly for anyone who meets this author's definition as life sure would be hell and an endless nightmare. Admitting that I am not a perfectionist, that ends up really not qualifying me to leave feedback on the suggested interventions, but I will anyway from my non perfectionist position. If one were a perfectionist, I would think it would take a tremendous amount of effort and time for the suggested interventions to work, and likely not even then. The mindset would be deep and a few techniques and exercises wouldn't cut it. Interestingly, there are numerous grammatical errors and I can't help but wonder if they were done on purpose to make a point.

Doesnt offer much in terms of guidance. Just call it a book fr the wicked.

Everything one needs to know about the basic composition, formation, refining, and transportation of oil is found in this book. Grounded in scientific fact, Smil lays it all out here. Definitely worth the read!

Having frequented a nummer og Peak oil former websites, I found this book to be a fresh perspective. I gave it a five star rating despite finding one error, it says in one place that an Abrahams tank runs on kerosene and in another that it runs on gasoline.

Just finished this book and it was outstanding. If you have interest in oil or fossil fuels it is a must-read.

Vaclav Smil is a world expert on energy and its role in civilization and has written an overview of oil, its history of use, its chemistry, economics and future. Where to start? I loved Red Queen, didn't care for Glass Sword at all, and just as I began King's Cage, which I thought was the final book, I found out there will be a book 4. And now I know why Glass Sword was so bad. Obviously she was asked to drag her 3 book series into 4 books. Kings Cage is much better than Glass Sword, but they would have been better as one great book, with all the filler taken out. So much of Glass Sword was filler and didn’t advance the story or make it better. But I digress, this is a review of King’s Cage. After finishing the book, I am honestly sad. I am trying to think about how Book 4 is going to go and at this point, I have no idea. I am hoping for some kind of happy ending for Mare, but after this book, I’m not sure that’s in the cards for her, and again, that makes me sad. The really good thing about this book is I like Mare again. I didn’t like her much after Glass Sword, but now I really care about her again. As far as our other leads, it's hard to like Maven, yes, he can be charming, but he's a psychopath, and even when we start to understand the reason, what was done to him, it doesn’t matter, he’s still evil. Cal can't make up his mind to save his life. It’s frustrating. How can you be in love with someone who’s people are being persecuted and wronged, but still manage to sympathize with the persecutors? To me he's almost worse than Maven, who at least is honest about the monster he is. With Cal, because he’s a good person, you expect him to do the right thing, and he doesn’t always do it. Evangeline...what can I say about her...she's still a bitch, but I like her now, which is something I never thought I'd say. And then there's Mare. My heart breaks for all the suffering she has to endure. Can we please give this girl a happy ending in Book 4? She’s so strong, even when they weaken her, she keeps mentally strong, and later she turns into a real fighter, and I am rooting for her all the way, she deserves a win. There are a few interesting new characters that will probably play a larger role in Book 4. I didn’t like the author’s choice to use Cameron as a point of view, I had to go back to Glass Sword to remember who she was. I would have preferred point of views from Cal, or Farley instead of her. The book was entertaining, if a little too long in some areas, it held my attention the entire way through, picking up and getting better as it went along. And that ending. The author took us to the top of the cliff, and left us there hanging. If a book ends on such a cliffhanger, we shouldn’t have to wait longer than 6 months for the next one. Really. Can that be a rule? All, in all, this book redeemed the series for me. Mare is back, more like the Mare from Red Queen, but stronger, and that’s a good thing.

*SPOILERS*I really enjoyed Red Queen and couldn't put it down. Glass Sword was great as well, despite being a lot slower during the second half. I really wanted to love King's Cage, since I have already invested so much in the series and in the Mare-Cal relationship. Unfortunately, many parts of King's Cage just completely fell flat and bogged the whole story down.I felt no connection whatsoever to the chapters told from Cameron's perspective. I didn't care for her in Glass Sword, and liked her even less in this. I get that the author was giving us a peek into what the Red Guard was up to while Mare was being held prisoner, but I think Cal or Kilorn's perspectives would have carried more weight or interest. Evangeline's chapters were more interesting, but even they were not necessary and just felt like filler. With the exception of Mare's one failed escape attempt, the first 300 pages were almost painfully slow. The story didn't start to get exciting until Maven's wedding and Mare's rescue.The last chapter and the epilogue seemed to erase all the character development that Cal made throughout the series. I have loved him since the moment he came into Mare's life and called her a thief, and he progressively got even better throughout King's Cage UNTIL that annoying ending painted him as a liar (since he had previously said he loved and wanted Mare more than ANYTHING). It doesn't make sense to me. He has risked his life how many times to save her, and then doesn't choose her when offered his crown/Evangeline vs Mare? I have a sinking feeling the 4th book is going to end with Mare either dead or alone, like so many book series seem to be doing these days. I especially feel this way because in Glass Sword, Jon mentioned that he foresaw Mare alone. I will be reading reviews on Amazon for spoilers after the 4th book is released next year because if she or Cal die, or don't end up together, I will not bother buying the book or wasting any more of my time on this series.
