From the Back Cover

Rediscover grace through the flawed, surprising, and even shocking viewpoints of the giants who shaped our faithThe church is tired of seeing Christians act ungraciously toward one another when they disagree. Social media has added to the carnage. Christians routinely lash out on Twitter or block each other on Facebook because of doctrinal disagreements. The world watches the bloodletting, and the Christian witness is tarnished. But what if every Christian discovered that their favorite teacher in church history had blind spots and held to some false--and even shocking--views? Bestselling author Frank Viola argues that this simple awareness will soften Christians when they interact with each other in the face of theological disagreements. In ReGrace, he uncovers some of the shocking beliefs held by faith giants like C. S. Lewis, Luther, Calvin, Moody, Spurgeon, Wesley, Graham, and Augustine--not to downgrade or dismiss them, but to show that even "the greats" in church history didn't get everything right. Knowing that the heroes of our faith sometimes got it wrong will empower us to treat our fellow Christians with grace rather than disdain whenever we disagree over theology.Frank Viola has helped thousands of people around the world to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and enter into a more vibrant and authentic experience of church. He has written many books on these themes, including his signature work, Insurgence: Reclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. His blog, frankviola.org, has been ranked in the top ten of all Christian blogs on the web today.

Discord among Christians today may not look quite as violent as it has in previous generations, but Frank Viola makes the case quite clear: Evangelical wars are no less bloody within churches, on social media, and among genuine followers of Jesus today.ReGrace is a beautiful reminder to all Christians, regardless of tradition, denomination, theology, or passion that we are called to be known for our love for one another, whatever it is we may believe. Looking at "greats" like C.S. Lewis, Edwards, Calvin, Luther, Wesley, Spurgeon, and many others within the faith, everyone will be challenged to confront within themselves the fact that we are all fallible. None of us has the corner on truth, for we all "know in part" and "see in part."As I read this latest volume of Viola's, there was one scripture in particular that kept coming to mind in Romans 15. It reads, "We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.... May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."This book is a refreshing, much-needed reminder to the church at large that we are one in Christ, called to keep our arms open in love for one another, not folded or closed due to our often varying beliefs or emphases. It is grace, and grace alone, that gives us Life in this very moment. May His grace empower us all to live with one another in harmony, amen.I encourage everyone to buy this book as soon as you can, read it cover to cover, and partner with the Holy Spirit to extend even greater grace to all you encounter. Jesus beckons us all to such ways, and this book is a gracious reminder of that very call.

It's time someone, thank you Frank Viola, seriously addressed the "unspoken" sins in the church...the sins of hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, and envy (and I'm just talking about those who disagree on what version of the Bible is right!). I have seen first hand these works of the flesh destroy fellow Christians, and sadly I have been a party to it myself. But with God's grace and forgiveness I am being delivered one disagreement at a time.Frank does an amazing job of exposing the ungodly vitriolic behavior expressed by many Christians today when someone has a belief that is different than their own. In "Re-Grace: What the Shocking Beliefs of the Great Christians Can Teach Us Today" Frank takes us down the road of extending the example of God's grace and love, when it comes to doctrinal disagreements. We must come to grips that no one, including you nor I, know it all this side of heaven! Yet that's how too many Christians act when confronted with a differing view. This is a book for anyone who desires to have a civil discussion with those they disagree and who also desire to display the Fruit of the Spirit rather than the works of the flesh in those discussions...whether those discussions take place face to face or online. Thanks again Frank. You hit a home run!

With a knife sharpened by the Spirit of CHRIST, Frank Viola cuts through so much of the distasteful discourse that takes place in Christian circles today. I cannot find fault with any of his observations or conclusions and I'm going to do my best to think more objectively before ever criticizing others. I am also going to pass along hearty recommendations for this book to many of my Christian brothers. Thank you, Frank, for a much-needed book in today's world.

Loved this book! I’m not aware of another book in print that contains this information in one cover. Don’t get side-tracked with the unusual beliefs of the Christians mentioned, but enter into the author’s main purpose for writing such a book. Jesus Christ said the world would know that we were His disciples because of the love we have for one another, not because our theology was perfect. In the end, the only thing that will matter is our love for Christ and the laying down of our lives for each other.

Another GREAT book by Frank Viola! If you desire more love, civility, unity, etc in the Body of Christ, this book is for you

This book shows that we ALL have some crazy theological views, and so rather than condemn each other as heretics, let's learn to live and laugh together. When I interviewed Frank Viola for my One Verse Podcast, he even said some of my theological views were crazy.... but then we laughed about it. This is how to approach disagreement between Christians.By taking a humorous look at some of the crazy views of theological giants like C. S. Lewis, Marin Luther, John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, Augustine, Billy Graham, and others, Frank Viola shows us that all of us have some views that could be condemned as heresy by somebody. But that's no reason to get all worked up and frothing at the mouth.Instead, it's an opportunity to show grace toward others, as we want them to show grace toward us. Most of all, charging people with heresy might be the biggest heresy of all. This book shows how. It's humorous, light-hearted, and instructive.

A quick and fun read, ReGRACE hits home on the relevant and important issue of learning how to love beyond theological differences. Writing to help combat the "carnage" found in many Evangelical social media circles, Viola humorously pulls back the curtain on the shocking beliefs of a few favorite celebrity theologian crushes, all with the goal of helping us remember that none of us know it all..and don't need to.In a time when it's easy to sit behind a keyboard and take pot shots at brothers and sisters in Christ who disagree with us, ReGRACE is a call to "always walk in love" no matter how quick it is to type a sarcastic comment or post a slanderous sentence. If everyone read this book and caught the spirit of it, Christian conversations would be full of grace and health, fewer relationships would be broken in the church, and things would just be more fun!
