I am a Scenic Designer and found this book to very informative. It gives the basic information for someone getting started in theatre. This book is not for people that are looking for designer profiles and the best designs in concept. It is for beginners breaking down all the info you would need to know about theatre and getting started in Scenic and Lighting Design. The biggest positive for me it that the book contains mostly designs that I haven't seen in any other design books. The designs are from more regional designers as apposed to world renowned designers. It's always nice to have new things to be inspired by.I bought the book used and it was worth it for the new inspiration.

Good introduction to the subject. Excellent reference book with solid examples; however could do with more updated examples.

Got it for a college class.

Book was required for Scene Design and Stagecraft course at school. I am no where near finished with it, as the class has just started, but already I feel like I'm learning a lot about the construction portion of the book.Book was in great condition upon purchase, and came in before the class so that is a bonus as well.

I bought the book to learn how to cast small low-temperature (pewter) objects and how to use modern materials such as silicone molds for cold casting. The book contains solid information but it is sadly rather dated (written in 1986). As such it has little to say about the modern mould-making materials or cold casting. It also deals mainly with high-temperature metals (aluminium, brass, bronze) etc. so I failed in my two primary aims. However, many of the techiques (sand casting) are still valid and as such are well explained. The black and white photos are not the greatest but not bad enough to detract from the information presented.All in all the material is well presented but to learn more modern methods one has to seek information elsewhere.

The overview of metal and rubber casting sections are solid and give you an idea of the scope and directions in which things can be done. It only goes into detail on sand-casting for metal objects, though, and I was really hoping for more detail on lost-wax casting, since the book points to it as another possibility for the hobbyist. Also, be aware that it is really written toward the hobbyist who is casting parts for restoring cars. Obviously, the information can be translated to other uses, but the writer will give examples focused around car parts and what metals work best for that, rather than other uses.

I have got a lot of things that I would like to cast in this book gives me some very good ideas on how to do so

I know almost nothing about this subject, but this book changing that. There isn't a lot of fluffy writing in this book, it goes right to the meat of the subject - I really like that! I haven't finished reading the book yet, but I already know enough to get started on getting a metal casting shop assembled, and what is involved in the casting process...

I have a background in similar skills and I was interested in this book because I wanted a knowledge of working with rubber, but a better title would have been "How To Cast Small Metal And RUBBERY Parts". There is no coverage of actual rubber. So that being said, the book is very comprehensive and the author gives very accurate and easy to understand information. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn these skills, just know it covers urethanes as rubber and not rubber.

I am so glad to have a copy of this in hand. I had found it at the library. This is a great book for any man to own. From swords to jewelry to auto parts you can make. This guy made auto parts. Great book to have in collection for sure.

I love this book. Before I had it, I never really knew that a "supercar" could be a 1936 Jaguar SS-100! Every photo is in full-color, and true to the headline, this is my first book about supercars that has a Bugatti Chiron in it. I received this book on Friday, August 24, 2018. Other cars in this book are the Koenigsegg Agera RS, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Bugatti Veyron. This book is an absolute MUST for anyone so interested in CARS!

I bought this as a gift. I received it with the top of the box ripped & the cover of the book totally wet. Since I did not have time to get another gift I gave the book without the outside cover. Very disappointing!

Bought this book for my son, the super car enthusiast. He loved the book, but quickly found errors. Some photos did not match the car and there are misspelled car titles.

Our Grandson just loved this book, and was so excited to get it for Christmas.

Great photos and our grandson really enjoyed it.

This book is tough to review, but I must say do NOT buy it! I have been a pro. Illustrator,for 25 yrs, so I have some knowledge here. I have also worked heavily in character design for animation. This book has no step by step sections. The animation section is a total joke. They tried to make it game like, levels,etc...which is a waste of time and has no real,purpose. The artist has talent, but the book is not good for reference or inspiration because the images are quite gross. Not all art in fantasy has to have oozing brains...This book is 1 persons idea of what art for video games should be like, it is not in line with the art,animation or gaming industry today. Buy from 3dTotal, all there stuff is gold!

It really is like a classroom in a book! I love how it leads the reader through the process of creating and designing. The only thing I can complain about is the lack of techniques in terms of basic lines, brush strokes, and choosing colors. The process of character and creature design though, really makes up for anything the book might be missing. I highly recommend this book to everyone wanting to improve their art and portfolio.

I am familiar with the author through his urban sketching blog and book, and have enjoyed his work and generous teaching approach related to that. With a recent interest in imaginative realism, I discovered this book and all I can say is WOW! The book is full of instructional guidance, experiential tips, and great drawings. The gameification of the exercises and the sheer number of projects to do are both amazing and give it value far beyond its cost if you actually devote time to doing them. For a young person looking to get into the art side of the gaming/entertainiment industry, this is a fabulous resource. As an older person, I am not career-minded; I just love to draw and am a sci-fi geek, so this book is a fun way to explore imaginitive realism more. As a gamer, I can realllllly relate to those achievement medals! I can see this book used equally well as a self-study guide, common reference for drawing club group efforts, or course textbook. Great job, Marc!

This book held me spellbound throughout. Alice Pung writes with honesty and power without affectation. I learned a lot about the Pol Pot years and the description of her father's life during this time was haunting - it will stay with me. This book should be compulsory reading in all Australian schools. It would make the average Aussie wiser, more understanding and just kinder. It's not all grim. There were parts that made me laugh out loud - I loved the story of the laminator! I can't wait for the next Alice Pung offering.

I found the author writing in third person disconcerting in the flow of the story.The information on the conditions in Cambodia during the Pol Pot regime vivid, educational and very disturbing. Very well written - I was engrossed.The story starts of life in the suburbs of Melbourne - a bit dull and I nearly put the book aside a few times - glad I persevered, as the story of her father's life in Cambodia was an eye opener.

Well written book, good synopsis of the time of the Khmer Rouge and the long term effects on survivors of this period.

Purchased this for my 10 year old grandson who is just getting interested in coin collecting. He has read it cover to cover and now knows more about coins than anyone else I know. It was a great book to teach him the basics plus enough information to move him forward with his collecting. It provided website and book information so that he could read further. Photos are all black and white but very adequate to learn the different coins.

Just received this last night and dove right in reading. Exactly the information I was looking for. I collected pennies as a kid and gave what I had to my nephew 30 years ago. Decided to start back with some coins I had stored in containers. Mostly just USA and Canadian coins. I will continue to read this book from front to back, its that good and informative.

Actually, the book was more informative than I thought. Simple and straight forward. Good reading for the beginning or intermediate coin collector.

This was a birthday present along with a bag of old pennies, for his birthday. He is having fun identifying the right ones to put in the right place for keeping.

Very useful book! Been collecting coins via pocket change for years and decided to "step it up" a bit. This book gave me valuable insights on coin collecting do's and don'ts.

Very Good overviews of starting to collect coins, with simple instructions on where and how to get advice and direction, good guidelines and pointers on how to read various grading standards of coins. Pointers where given on how to store coins and gave several web sites locations that deal directly with coins. It is not a "do all" that covers everything. It is more of an overview on how to start coin collecting and directs you in several potential locations to go, leaving the final choice up to the collector.

Guth does an excellent job in teaching how one could & should start a coin collection. When I was a kid, I made a stupid decision to collect stamps, which can be cut up and burnt. Now coins are much more durable, and their value is obvious.

My husband is a coin collecting fanatic. But even though he has a lot of information on coin collecting there is always more to learn. So we turned to this book and were delightfully surprised with how much information that it had to offer. I have always been a huge proponent of the "...DUMMIES" books and once again they've done a great job with this one.
