If you're like me and never seemed to understand math when you were younger, got through college somehow without having to take math (except statistics) but still have to take the GRE these books are for you. Seriously, I love these books so much they've eased some of my anxiety about test taking. The set is definitely large but if you're committed to really studying, the books are very clear and have plenty of practice questions. There are lots of tricks one can use to save time on test day. I'm giving myself about 5 months to prepare because I've never done well on standardized tests. I'm on month two of these books and got through two of them completely so far. You can jump around, they're not really in order.Also, the vocabulary flash cards ( there are two sets and you have to buy separately) are great too really concise.I'm not a book learner usually, but I don't think I'll be needing a tutor as originally planned because these books are that easy to understand. It's annoying to spend over $100 on prep materials on top of the test, but I've looked at other books and feel that Manhattan are the best.

I tried using other books to study for the GRE, but these books gave the most indepth explanantions for different problem types. I also love that they not only go through the different math information, but also give you tips on how to solve problems like the quantitative comparison questions. There are tips given that help you save time and you definitely need the time on the GRE! There are drill sets and problem sets so you can gain practice through many questions. There are also example questions that the books work through step by step explaining them. If you are looking for books that clearly explain the information and make it easy to understand, these would be a good choice! There are also 6 practice tests you can gain access to online, but make sure that the book is either sold by amazon or that there is a code in the book to gain access. If not, just buy the set and then buy one additional book from amazon and you will have access. You can also use the calculator that you will have on the GRE which is good so that you can practice using that rather than a handheld one.

I did use this set of books in conjunction with a GRE prep class. Regardless I found the books to be helpful and allowed the student to be self-sufficient and still do a good job.

Great book, much better than the GRE official guide. Questions are ( I would say) 15% harder than most of those which show up on the actual GRE, so very good practice too.

I was a little skeptical when I first heard about Manhatten test prep, mainly because I had been in the realm of higher education for nearly a decade and had never heard of them, but man am I glad that I bought them. I've never been satisfied with Princeton Review, Kaplan, etc. As someone who has taken the PSAT, SAT, ACT, MCAT (Examkrackers books are great but not as good as these) and GRE, I can confidently say these are the best test prep books I've ever purchased and will highly recommend them to anyone willing to listen.

If you want to hit that top percentile, this tool is right for you. However, you do need certain determination to finish these books. I have tried many GRE practice books and they are by far the best I have tried. I will totally recommend this to those who wants to pick back up their math skills. However, this book is as friendly for those who has limited math background. :) As for the verbal, manhattan GRE is very helpful in reading comprehension. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

This books are saved me. I forgot some basic maths principles, I spent a lot on GRE Class but could not understand lot of the stuff. I bought this books and haven't regretted. They're expensive but you'll achieve more. You can learn on your own and pass the GRE with there books.

I decided to buy these books after studying for the GMAT with the Manhattan series. I honestly believe that these books will be of more use than a class that cost 1000+. The books all start out with the same summary of what the test is like and the new changes. Then they go into their respective fields. If you have the Manhattan GMAT series, you can basically skip all the math books in this series except the quantitative comparison book. Each book is broken into sections and each section is structured the same way. Each section begins with information that you need to learn and includes some sample problems, then you are given a problem set to do with answers on the next few pages. After all the sections of the book, you are given a huge Drill section over everything with probably around 100 problems. These books work great because they proivde the information you need and then provide a TON of problems to learn from. I scored in the 90% and above in both quant and verbal. I highly suggest these books and if your math skills are lacking, try the Manhattan GMAT math books. They are a bit harder but excellent at learning the basics.

A must read book for runners! This is the first book that actually teaches you how to run with proper technique. This is also the first book I have ever read that has actual drills to build proper run mechanics. The author breaks down the run into three distinct phases: "Pose, Fall, Pull" and teaches you drills that allow you to learn these phases. I have been an avid Triathlete and distance runner since 2006. I have taken several running classes. My coaches taught me to "forefoot" strike and not to "heel" strike. They told me my cadence should be 180 steps per minute. They told me to ensure my arms did not cross and that they traveled from "hip to nip". However, none of my run coaches over the last 8 years of instruction could ever show me drills to build these techniques. In my Masters swim class, all they do is drill and swim. When I golfed, we built a solid swing by developing a solid base, one piece take-away, ensured we had a proper grip, proper alignment at the top of the swing and solid weight transfer at the bottom of the swing. We had drills to build these fundamentals. Until I read this book, none of literature actually focused on run technique. The Pose running drills: Springiness position, Body weight perception, Timber, Wall fall, base jump, change of support, pony and foot tap all teach you how to get into proper "pose", "fall" and "pull" when you are running. I have now incorporated these drills into my training. Tip: Go to "Youtube" videos: search for "drill posetv" to get visual lessons on how to perform the drills. Best wishes and happy running!

As I am writing this review, I am finishing my third week of the program (starting lesson 8/10 before getting into longer workouts). After reading most reviews I can see why some people love it, and some people hate it. I am very technical and analytical, I always try to find the most efficient way to perform a task, including with exercise. That is why I bought this book, and I can say I am not disappointed. If anything I wish I bought this years ago....Short background (I'll get to the point fast, I promise!). I grew up swimming, played competitive water polo through college, and took up running 3 years ago. I found myself constantly injuring myself, despite some significant accomplishments for a non-runner (43:16 10K is my best PR). After getting sick of injuring myself I thought about how much time I spent growing up doing swimming drills. We did nothing but drills and stroke work for years, that made me an efficient/injury-free swimmer, and I wanted to take that approach to running. I tried a running coach, but he had the old school mentality of 'just run,' not to mention one session was three times more than this book...."The Running Revolution" explains that with the right technique and approach to running, anyone can have a long running career. Not just a few years until your knees give out. That's what I wanted, and that is what this book will help you do (assuming you have the mind-body awareness to be your own critic). First by re-build your running form from the ground up. It starts off with simple workouts, but is building your foundation. The first workout is all about your foot, and you reinforce these principles before each workout. I had already taken steps to move away from heel-striking, so this seemed obvious, but I maintained a positive attitude towards it. I had made the decision to follow the program all the way through, and wasn't going to be deterred because I thought a few drills were common sense. As you progress the workouts stack on top of each other and become more complex.What the book tries to do is get you to think and feel every aspect of your run. From your foot strike, to your leaning (falling) angle, to your recovery (pull), etc.... I find some technique drills awkward, but they serve a purpose. I can tell you the first time I did a number of swimming drills felt awkward too. But today, almost 4 weeks in, I can say that everything is starting to fit into place. When I am running correctly, it feels right, like the first time I held good form on a new lift... something just clicks now. I know I am not faster, in fact I am sure I cannot go out and maintain my old pace with the new form i am learning, but that when I get back to running track workouts and racing I will continue to improve without the high rate of injury.I have two tangible improvement's at this point I would like to share:(1) I have noticed that I really feel the effort my calves and hamstrings put into each workout. As the book describes, previously I was actively striking the ground which put a lot of stress on my shins, quads, and feet (where I had a lot of my injuries over the last few years). But now I feel like I am properly using the correct muscles when I run. It reminds me of the first time I performed weight workouts with slow-controlled reps, I felt sore, and couldn't do near the weight as I did with improper form, but knew it was a good thing. It has not been easy to make the transition, but it feels right.(2) I have a Garmin Felix 2, which tracks my cadence, ground contact time, and vertical oscillation (how much you are moving up and down during your run). Previously my vertical movement was terrible, something like 12-14 CM. After my last jog, I averaged a 8 CM vertical oscillation, which is not perfect, but the difference from 12 to 8 is significant, and shows that I am running much more efficiently that I was previously.I am sure there are dozens of books that will give you a similar insight into running. Each will have a structured path to efficient running. I can't say this is the best book on the market, but am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone I know.

Never thought I would see the evolution of running unfold before my eyes. In the 1970's we were taught to always run heel to toe. That was wrong. I can't even begin to Imagine the injuries caused by this strategy. Well then was then. Now we have a much, much better way to train. This is the wave of things to come. This book will be a must read, in the future. I'm sure of it. If you run for any reason, you need this book. It will blow your mind. Great read.

I have started and stopped running regimens multiple times over the last few years - many of my friends are avid runners and enjoy weekend challenges and I wanted to be part of it. But I hadn't gotten into a good groove and I was plagued with injuries. I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion and had high hopes of it being able to help me over come these obstacles.I found the author's style easy to read and very simple to follow - with a series of drills and ways to prepare yourself, I have got back on the running trail and over the last 10 days have really seen an improvement in my running and despite my history, I have not yet had an injury (knock on wood!). I am excited to continue to implement the tips and tools I have (and continue to!) learned from this book and will be looking for his other book about the Pose method as I found the shortened version in this book to me very helpful to a long-term running struggler like myself.

 This is a wonderful resource for LEGO Harry Potter fans and collectors. It includes tons of worthwhile information about all sets released between 2001 and 2011, plus a great set timeline, minifigure galaxy, and even an index to help you find what you are looking for. I've put together a short video pictorial review so you'll know what's included. I hope you find it helpful.

Despite being one of those mass produced "series" books, this is a beautiful, very well illustrated, current and accurate overview of human origins. I grew up with Time Life books as a kid -- wish they were still produced, they were the sort of books that would draw me away from eBooks and back to print media -- and this the only work on this subject that is a worthy successor to the old Time Life Emergence of Man series. This is a large format volume, but is NOT a "coffee table book" (I always think of the great Seinfeld episode where Kramer publishes a coffee table book with folding legs that actually turn it into a coffee table), it is content-rich.

Evolution: The Human Story is a wonderful book. It is beautiful and compels you to keep reading. It may not be an in-depth book for someone who wants to learn the finer points of evolution, nor does it have to be, but it is a ton of fun. My 4 and 8 year old children love looking at it with me and that is, in fact, one of the reasons I purchased it. They love the pictures. They ask questions about them which prompt the reading of the small chunks of fun information. I would not use this book to ace a legitimate class on the subject but would use it to grease the old gaskets before the course! A fantastic book for beginners. A perfect book for the coffee table.

Evolution: The Human Story highlights lifelike fossil-hominoid head reconstructions while also featuring many images of living and fossil primates. Pages 30-31 show in photographs the thirteen steps in the reconstruction process used by Dutch paleoartists Adrie and Alfons Kennis that involves layers of plastic clay, silicone rubber, mold-painting-casting, glass eyeballs, and hair insertions. Page 44 features the skulls of the giant monkeys Caipora (44 pounds) and Protopithecus (55 pounds) of Brazil, both of which were probably hunted to extinction by humans. Pages 90-91 show the lifelike head reconstruction of Australopithecus africanus for the Taung child, which is viewed as having died at 2-3 years old and which lacks the jaws projection of the adult form. Pages 172-173 feature side and back views of the head reconstructions of Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus afarensis, Australopithecus africanus, Homo habilis, Homo georgicus, Homo ergaster, Homo erectus, Homo antecessor, Homo heidelbergensis, Homo neanderthalensis, Homo floresiensis, and Homo sapiens.

Beautiful book. Full of written information. But it doesn't stop there. The graphics are outstanding. With this book, you can learn about evolution just by studying the graphics and their captions. I recommend this book to any one interested in human evolution.

My son asked for this because he builds lego and wanted ideas. He is very happy with it. It has great pictures and ideas.

This book is awesome! It is big and may not fit on every shelf but that is not a problem for me. The quality is very good, lots of photos and illustrations. Would suit as a gift.

This book is well written, well documented, and provide stunning evidence that covers the evolution of the human species.

First off, I would like to thank Kathy Addis for helping folks who need quick solutions to living gluten free.My machine is a low cost Hamilton Beach with a perported Gluten Free cycle, which was not really properly designed for gluten free baking, rather it was a marketing ploy to hook in gluten free buyers. So the kneading and baking times are inappropriate for gluten free ingredients. It does however have Express cycles for 1.5 lb and 2 lb loaves that take approximately 1 hour total like advised in Kathy's book so I was happy to buy Kathy's book and try her recipes.I USED FRESH SAF INSTANT YEAST. If you do not used fresh yeast or at least proof your yeast, do not complain about failures to rise. The ingredients mix and rise just fine, but I have found that the bread does not fully finish baking on my machine. Perhaps this explains some of the folks who say they ended up with mush. Fortunately I have the option of letting the Rapid cycle run to the end, wait for the end beep then reset and use the Bake cycle to add another hour. I have to then set a timer to alert me when a half hour has elapsed so I can take out the loaf when it is done. This results in fine loaves. I determined this by testing with a dial meat thermometer which I place in the loaf near the end of the rapid cycle, and close the lid. I can then check the temp through the window on the lid of my machine.If you read the manuals of various bread machines on the internet, you will see what a great variety there is in baking temperatures, kneading times, rising times and baking times. No wonder the recipes in this book do not work for everybody. But most machines allow you to add time by using the "bake" cycle after completing a shorter cycle with a single rise in it that is more appropriate for gluten free ingredients. If your machine does not have a bake only cycle, you can pull out the pan and place it on its side to finish it in the oven. I feel she should add instructions in the book on testing end temperatures and on additional baking if necessary for your machine.Also you could just use the bread machine dough mixing cycle and bake in a bread pan in the oven for the appropriate time. Like many folks I do not have a big expensive mixer and do not enjoy mixing by hand so the dough cycle is a handy thing for me!I do wish there were more bread recipes in this book with different grains. Also it would be nice to have a "gum free" recipe for those folks intolerant of xanthan gum or guar gum.I wish the folks who failed with this book would list what machines they were using and whether they had fresh yeast. It might save others from failing. It would be delightful if I had a machine that turned out these recipes perfectly without the extra effort I mentioned above, but this book is still useful and you can make the recipes work. Perhaps you will even luck out and have a machine that works great with these recipes. It's worth a try.

The book's value is the author's guidance in using a bread machine. It was worth the $5 and even more to overcome my fear of making gluten-free bread with my new Oster, giving me the confidence to revamp recipes I've tried in the oven (but it just took too long and was too messy). I've tried three recipes so far; two were so-so, but the raisin-cinnamon bread is fantastic! Next I plan to try the onion buttermilk recipe. Her recipe and advice about stuffing and croutons was amazing. I would welcome other recipe books and bread machine baking advice from this author.

I so wanted to like it and I followed other reviews to increase baking time etc.... I think the author hasn't included enough info regarding liquid amounts, judging texture of the bread, adding liquid substitutions for dry milk, etc.Each loaf that I tried, Sally Lunn and cinnamon raisin, call for more liquid than other recipes (since I substituted dry milk with liquid almond milk as the author suggests) and both loaves were a gloppy mess, even with extended bake time.So now I give up on this book for my bread machine :(

Some of these recipes are way off. I first tried "Sally Lunn Bread" on page 72, and ended up with one awful mess. It calls for both a cup of milk, and 1 1/2 cups of warm water. Love this book! If you are frustrated and determined to make gf bread in a machine, please do yourself a big favor and get this. It is so helpful understanding the process. I combine this book with Gluten-Free Bread, by Sophie Miller. By using these books you can make easy breads like quick potato bread and a simple bread bread. Kathy thanks for the help and encouragement!! Also, if you get a bread machine, I recommend one with a gf setting, and use that setting. I have a Ham. Beach.

These are great recipes, even in a small machine. I use a Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery Programmable Mini Breadmaker, and was delighted to see that Addis gives instructions for adapting recipes. Though my Zojirushi's quick bread cycle takes two hours and her recipes are for machines with one-hour cycles, they still work just fine. My favorites include the maple oat bread (which I make with agave syrup) and the Italian Dried Tomato Bread - though the multi-grain bread is really good too, and I haven't tried a recipe I didn't like.These recipes do use eggs, and for one-loaf machines the instructions call for using 2 eggs instead of 3 along with half the other ingredients). The result is a bread with a slight custardy texture, though not annoyingly so, and a great taste - even my husband, who isn't on a gluten-free diet, agrees. The loaves are a bit smaller than others I've made in my machine, probably due to the use of instant yeast. It's still some of the best bread I've had in the almost 20 years I've been gluten-free.The ingredients may require a bit of shopping (online for me, despite my fairly well stocked gluten free pantry). Addis's basic bread flour recipe calls for both soy flour and coconut flour, along with the brown and white rice flours and tapioca starch I always have on hand, and she uses SAF instant yeast and dough enhancer, also new ingredients for me. But the results are well worth it. There are a lot of really appealing recipes in the book - cinnamon or pecan raisin, cheddar cheese, buttermilk onion, Welsh currant, and savory bacon pepper loaf, along with the maple oat and Italian dried tomato and multi-grain breads that are my favorites. After taking years to find recipes to make the simplest kind of edible bread, I'm really looking forward to having a lot of fun with this cookbook, baking some really interesting savory breads at last!P.S. I ordered a copy to give a nephew on a gluten-free diet, and was happy to see that it now comes with a spiral binding, so it will lie flat on its own - much easier to use.
