Too much detail about the landscape and not enough involving the story...that made for a slow and somewhat boring read. Also too much of what the characters were thinking. I have read other books from Jane Kirkpatrick and enjoyed most, just not this one.

Once again Jane Kirkpatrick does not disappoint with her new book A Land of Sheltered promise.What a beautiful picture of God's redemption! How He can make something bright and beautiful out of something so tarnished.I wasn't too sure how much I wanted to read about the Rajneesh again. Living here in Oregon and reading about all their exploits in the newspaper at the time was enough to last a life time. Her story line of Cora, Razi and Charity made it palatable.After reading about that period of time and then reading about the redemption of the land through all of God's miracles was like a welcome spring of cool water in a dry desert! Her book is truly a wonderful picture of God's fulfilling of prayer requests and making something good for His people out of something so broken and abandoned.This is a book to add to your collection of books by this talented and caring author, Jane Kirkpatrick.

The first part taking place in early 1900's in eastern Oregon. The second part of when the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his cult following owned the land. The third part tells of the land being donated to Young Life, a world-wide Christian organization and how they have now used this land for summer camps and retreats for junior high and high school young people.

Always enjoy reading Jane Kirkpatrick's books. Have not read this one yet because I am currently reading one of her other books.

For Jane Kirkpatrick fans, this book delivers more of what we like in her writing: good grasp of history, excellent character development, compelling story-telling. This book meant a lot to me as I am involved with Young Life and spend time at the camp she writes about. For anyone who hasn't yet read anything by Jane, get ready to be seduced into learning about history as you become engrossed in what really happened on this land in the distant and more recent past. It will change how you look at the landscape.

This is somewhat of a change of pace for Kirkpatrick in that she is mixing characters from the early 1900's then jumping into characters we are all familiar with in more recent years. It is a fascinating book and as always, Kirkpatrick does a wonderful job. I did not want to put it down.

I bought this book for myself to read. It is on the shelve waiting for me to find time to read it. I have read most of Jan Kirkpatrick's books, and they are all very good.

My first experience with Young Life's camp properties was at the "Big Muddy", now Washington Family Ranch. We began the renovation of this site and facilities and the dedication to God and His promise to meet with thousands of youth and adults alike, now and in the future, in this place. The book I got because my granddaughter felt the awe of this place and was truly interested in what it might be like to experience living in this area for a time and the provision of God. It's a great read for a young girl with eyes on being involved and fulfilled through giving.

I purchased this in preparation for doing a summer bible study and am so very pleased with it! There are good thought provoking questions, but very basic 101 questions as well. We are using it for a weekly study and it's perfect to come together as a group and study 1 woman in an hour and a half. Lots of scripture to read but enough time left over to apply it to each woman's life and develop relationships. We always feel the session ends and could use more time to discuss, so considering extending the sessions to 2 hours. Many friendships made doing this study! No video; it's not needed either! Anyone at any level in the faith walk could do this study.

A must Buy this really has helped me to go deep with the women of the bible it gives you just enough to keep your mind going with possibility's. to me she asks all the right questions to get you to think deeply about some of the women as well as yourself and they help you to put yourself in the women's mind and times it helps you to understand the story better. The way she brakes it down truly helps you to relate to them in a way you probably have not in the past. I am so happy I got this book it was so worth it.. I would recommend the one year devotional study book as well.

I was really excited about getting this book but was disappointed when it arrived. As I started to go through it, I realized pages 120 -159 are all upside down. I was going to return it but just decided to work with it. I think the book should be cheaper for that reason alone and the error should have been disclosed in the description. Aside from that, the book is what I expected and I think it will work well for small group Bible study for people that have never really done an in depth study of these women.

I've never read the original book, so my review is based on what I read solely from this Study Book.This book has 52 discussions, each of which discusses one woman of the Bible. It gives out basic character of the woman, and some key scriptures. I like how it prints out some scriptures from the Bible that form a summary of the story, such that we don't have to spend too much time opening up the verses (you will still need to open up some verses on your own from the Bible during discussion).I also like the "So-and-so's Life and Times" section that explains the culture of the society during which each woman in the story lived. This really helps us in understanding the decisions that they made that we, in today's world, would otherwise have considered absurd. And, this helps us to relate their struggles with ours today.I used this book with some young women small group (teens to early twenties). All of them never read the Bible front to back. So, for me one of the strongest points of this book is that it thoroughly leads us to walk through pretty complete history of the Bible. Most other bible study books go by topics, and thus sometimes are not as thorough.Despite the detailed history part, the discussion questions are not boring (as most history books are) but they are pretty interesting and help the members to open up with each other.All in all, I was satisfied more that I expected with this book. Plus, it has 52 stories, so I won't have to worry anytime soon of having to find another bible study book.

We have started to let the ladies in our group pick a women for the upcoming weekly meeting. A couple pages, scripture and questions we fill 1.5 hours learning about women we make not have known much about. Love that we can do it inbetween studies and skip around as each one stands alone.

I really can't say enough about this book. We have dinner every Thursday at church and then break into various groups afterwards. We had been doing a Book Club with women and found ourselves without a leader. I started looking on amazon and suggested we do a study on the women of the bible, something I had never really done. In searching i came across this gem. It is broken up into 52 women. One for each week. I ordered the books and showed up to class very nervous.Well let me tell you this book has been great. Not only did i find myself with 8 eager participants including 2 men. We have a very diverse group from 30's to 80's. I was unsure if everyone would be open to it. The book does ask some questions of its reader that may seem more suited to women but the men jumped right in.I agree with a previous reviewer that the lessons are short and you dont need to buy the study guide. However these little lessons carry a big punch. It gives you info on your subject, the surroundings of the time and then bible verses and questions. We have always used the entire hour. It is also interesting to find the ways that we are alike with our subject.I encourage u to look through the book. Amazon allows you to do that at the top of the page. Study and look over the chapter on Eve. That will give you a feel for the book.I hope you order this book. The men always seem to be written and studied about more in the bible. This is a great way to study all the wonderful women too!!!!!

This came with no writing or marks in the book except the previous owner 's name. Pretty clean I'd say. The book itself is very interesting and leads to very lively discussions in our group. It has also brought me closer to God.

When I first explored Europe many years ago, I was astounded by the eroticism as well as the preponderance of unembarrassed male nudity in public art and sculpture. The very first time I sauntered along London's Millbank on my way to the Tate Britain Museum, I was confronted by two writhing naked men tying a poor woman to a bull, and then found myself staring up through the leaping legs of another naked man carrying a woman's head! These are the statues that decorate one entrance, The Death Of Dirce and The rescue of Andromeda, which depicts Perseus with Medusa's head. Experiencing these was awesome ( in the literal sense of the word), because not only were they haunting and erotically charged sculptures , but, as I quickly realised,  they were accepted as part of the public art dialogue of a sophisticated culture, two of hundreds of erotically charged publicly naked and semi-naked men throughout great European cities like London and ignored by thousands of commuters each day.  The Death Of Dirce is itself based upon the exquisite classical sculpture, now called The Farnese Bull, itself dating from around 220 AD, on display in Rome. A 16th century pope had acquired it when his men found it while digging around Roman ruins in search of garden decorations , and  Michelangelo evidently turned it into a fountain for the Pope's garden. The Baroque period, and the incorporation of naked, lustful, heroic male dominated classicism into religious art (thanks partly to Medici influence and money), is something that always perplexed me as a child growing up in an austere Catholicism but surrounded by this orgy of imagery. This nudity, captured in realistic painting and sculpture (the photography in its day) was scandalous when first unveiled. But it became highly sought after for church decoration. And it was copied and plagiarised around the world, eventually reaching 20th century Tasmania, where I was confused and aroused by it as a child, whilst the nuns and priests who schooled me, taught  me to be ashamed of my sinful body. It is strange today that we are socialised to feel embarrassment or repulsion at male genitalia, and the portrayal of the naked male as an object of sensuality in art film and photography is judged pejoratively as gay or homoerotic, when this is at odds with the public art which we inherited from the classical tradition, and which was resurrected by Christian Europe in the Renaissance. This was art created when our Roman and Greek predecessors, who we still revere in every other way, worshipped the full beauty of a male as one of the most important subjects of art .  Heroics explores this gap between heroic art and life, using the photo reality and mixing modern and classical references to replicate some of the drama inherent in the original art. Something of my serious political purpose may be subsumed by the resultant theatricality that has about it more of the humorous kitsch surreality of a Fellini set, dispelling any awe I felt from staring up at the very serious sensuality of the statues outside the Tate Britain. But I called the books Heroics for a reason, and I also wanted to satirise the way European men have adorned and mythologised themselves and their physical courage, in art through the centuries.

Although the quality of photography and the calibre of the models was usually good, the settings in which the models posed were too often urban gritty, industrial, graffitti covered scenes. There is nothing heroic about rust belt decay!!! I was looking more for classic beauty. Also, the props, such as hat, helmets, and greaves, looked cheesy. Freeman could use a good production designer.

Another exquisite book from Mr. Freeman. The volume is beautifully printed. The photographs are gorgeous and most are sized to the page. The models are definitely heroic. You will not regret this purchase.

Always waiting for another great book from Freeman. Since seeing his work in the magazine "blue" years ago it has been a pleasure to collect the publication of his work in all formats. Heroics has an edge with the costuming and contemporary locations for his shoots.

Like all the Paul Freeman books, this is beautiful and well-produced, The models are macho and good looking and the use of props and costumes to the nudes makes for a certain piquancy, Not pornographic but definitely erotic.

A fantastic book from this photographer, I look forward to new editions of his works as he is the best since Jim French (Colt Studios).

The first time I looked at the cover I thought it was not going to be a good book but when I saw the author Judy Blum I told my mom I would give it a try since I have read almost all of her books . When I was half why in the book I instantly fell in love with the book so when I had to do something I tried so hard to resist . But before you skip me I hust have to say this is the best book I have ever read so I think u sould try it u might like it like I did (BTW my fav character was Rachel ) I could go on and on and on and on about how great this book is but I really whant you to read this book and If u dont its your loss that u past up a great book so good to ur favorite spot and a blanket and read this book by:)

The perfect "coffee table" book,especially for Kentuckians.

Nice coffee table book. I saw it in a hotel first and liked the landscape pictures. It was very expensive, but amazon had it for under $5

While I admire the effort to preserve photos of the old monuments/areas, and the photos were lovely, I just wish more had been taken in the spring or summer. Many seem to have been taken in the dreary winter.

These were gifts, and the recipients loved them.

My 19 month old daughter loves this book. The pictures are bright and colorful, the story is simple, and the length is just right. However, the flaps are not the durable and require adult supervision to keep from being ripped off.

Another lovely Daniel Tiger book! When so many Children's books, TV programming, and DVD videos are Frenetic and loud, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood remains a thoughtful yet fun place to just "Be"!

Just as with other Daniel Tiger books we've read, this was short and sweet and to the point. We use it as a great conversation starter- after reading, we ask the kids ways someone has shown them love and what are ways they could show someone else that person is special and loved.

My son loves lift the flap books so this was perfect for Valentine's day!

my two year old has had me read this to her three times since she got it yesterday...her 5 y.o. Sister has read it to her enough to have it memorized...and she lines reading the pictures to herself! Even if the flaps don't survive, it's well worth it given how much she loves it!

This book is one of my daughter's favorites. She loves the flaps you can lift. The images are clear and the story is really cute. I like that there are a couple sentences on each page unlike some of the other Daniel Tiger books that only have a couple words on each page. Very cute book and was a perfect valentine's day gift for my daughter.

Purchased this for my nephew for Valentine's Day and read it before I sent it to him. Loved this book and he will too! Cute and fun reading for toddlers!!

My mother bought this book for me after giving birth. I was having difficulty producing enough milk. The author covered the information in depth (starting with the stages of breast feeding including pregnancy, milk production, feeding an infant, returning to work and weaning). Some of the most helpful tips for me were:-Breastfeeding mothers need about 500 more calories a day for a total of 2,000 calories and also need to drink plenty of water. This includes eating a snack and drinking water while pumping.-Breastfeeding works by supply and demand. Breastfeed frequently in order to increase milk supply and pump for 15 minutes afterwards.-The most common herbal recommendations are fenugreek, goat’s rue, blessed thistle, moringa, alfalfa, and shatavari. (Although the book did not go into detail about these supplements, I was then able to research them more and order a supplement off of amazon).-Eat lactogenic foods including oats, barley, leafy green vegetables, almonds, cashews, brewer’s yeast, fennel, and beets. (I would notice an increase in my milk supply on the days I would eat some of these foods).Other topics covered were: cracked nipples, engorgement, plugged ducts, thrush, mastitis, and latching issues(and more).I would recommend this book to anyone considering or who is breastfeeding. I have already bought this for a couple of friends who have asked me for breastfeeding advice. I would have felt more prepared if I had read this book prior to delivery. If you are going to pick just one book to read covering everything you need to know about breastfeeding, choose this one!

I read this over the course of a few days when my son was about 4 weeks old. I was looking for tips to fine-tune our breastfeeding game and found not only helpful information for that, but also realized there was a wealth of knowledge I wish I had had before my son came along. We struggled with a few topics covered in the section about the first two weeks and had I had this guide while they were going on, I think I would have been able to resolve my issues much faster while also saving myself many tears! Highly recommend reading before baby comes, but even if you’re finding it late in your breastfeeding game it’s still worth it, especially considering the many tips the book offers for later stages of your breastfeeding journey. I also think it’s a great gift for any frat time mamas you may know that are expecting!!

This is easy to read and to the point with great illustrations. I like the format - it’s pretty short and only took me a few hours to read. I have two other breastfeeding books that put me to sleep in the first few pages and I never picked them up again. I learned a lot from this book, and it seems to have really good information that will be very helpful in the near future when my baby is here!

Nonjudgmental and fact based. Names ALL resources for mother and clearly conveys information. Latch simply states that each decision or choice is up to family unit. No judgment is given this book. It suggests DOWN-TO-Earth practicality which in whole adds peace to a sometimes difficult but lovely experience.

I totally bombed breastfeeding my first son, and I want to do better with the next. Anxiety, not having a support group, just failing left and right with something that should be natural made me not breastfeed as long as I wanted to. I already read the book, and I plan to keep it with me during the hours of difficulty and stress this time around.Nothing too surprising... but all good information. A quick read which is nice for either a mom or a new mom.I also read "The Fourth Trimester: A Postpartum Guide to Healing Your Body, Balancing Your Emotions, and Restoring Your Vitality", which I highly recommend. It is true in American culture when are as supported and valued as a mother, and even though a lot in this book might not be suitable and accessible easily, it will give a lot of ideas to think of for your new mommy future.

This book was perfect!! I’m due to have my first in November and this book answered every single question I had about breastfeeding without being overwhelming. It’s very up to date. The illustrations are extremely helpful. I even took a breastfeeding class after reading this book and I was the only one that knew everything already due to this. I’ll definitely be using this during my breastfeeding journey! Must buy!!!!

The amazing women at the San Diego Breastfeeding Center helped me so much with my baby and in the most non-judgmental way - I’m so glad Robin has now written this book. One such survivor is Lira, our heroine. Immune to the spores that change people from human to one of the Resurrected, Lira is in charge of making runs to gather up food and supplies for her small group. A job that definitely takes its toll on her... and makes her crave skin to skin action with her lover/boyfriend, Anthony, whenever she makes it back alive. Which is never a guarantee, so those two always make the most of their time together.Nothing Else Matters has a vivid end-of-the-world setting, a heroine who is strong and adaptable, a hero who is understanding and isn't afraid to say 'I love you', zombies, sex, sex, and more sex. It quickly engages you and draws you in. It will turn you on and, well, freak you out as well. If I was a nail biter, a few scenes would've had me chewing on them pretty darn good. Miz Hart's story packs quite the compact punch.+ Pick Me Up by Lauren Hawkeye - Rating: BHolly is a woman scorned, out for some revenge. Standing in the middle of the road in a white dress while it pours down rain, she waits for some unsuspecting man to rescue her. That man ends up being Brody, a hot geek that's totally unprepared for the passenger he picks up. After getting his car stuck in a ditch, Holly and Brody get to really know each other while they wait for a tow.Pick Me Up puts a new spin on hitchhiking, that's for sure. And even though it isn't so much a 'feel good' story, it was still very steamy and titillating. My only issue was Holly, as she isn't a terribly likeable heroine. She says and does some things that made me feel sorry for Brody. I'm also not 100% sure about the ending (which I believe was deliberate)... it kind of ends on a creepy note! Still, those two could give Jack and Rose (Titanic) a run for their money on steaming up car windows. Whew!*The only non-paranormal story in this antho.+ Little Red's Big Bad by Saranna DeWylde - Rating: AMiranda, a U.S. Marshal, is being taunted by a serial killer. But not just any serial killer--one that believes he's a werewolf. Tasked with hunting him down, Miranda is joined in the hunt by Aden, an agent with the FBI. When they become trapped in a cabin, surrounded by giant snow drifts with no way out, Miranda and Aden put the case on the back burner and give in to their burning lust.Little Red's Big Bad was full of awesome drama and absorbs you into the chase immediately. The chemistry between Miranda and Aden is immediate too. It's there, quietly simmering, until it finally boils over. So hot. I also really enjoyed how the psychological condition of lycanthropy played a big part. Is there or isn't there actual werewolves? Smart twist on it. And the ending, well, I'll admit I actually aww'd out loud. I plan to check out Miz DeWylde's PNR series, 10 Days, as soon as possible!-- A Romantic Book Affairs Review

NOTHING ELSE MATTERS by Megan HartIn the first book of the "Hot and Haunted" anthology, we visit with Lira and Anthony after the world has been attacked and virus has been spread killing humans only to resurrect them to spread the virus even more. Kira, Anthony and a few other humans have taken refuge in a Synagogue and Kira is their only salvation. The only one who has come in contact with the virus and has survived. That is, until she meets Mac, a soldier who has defected and is trying to warn any humans he can that the military has decided to wipe out everyone in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading.I love anthologies. The stories are short and to the point. Ms. Hart had this storyline moving constantly. It was quick, witty and packed with some really hot sex. It was also a love story between Kira and Anthony ... a story about trust and love. The only way Kira can get the sight and sounds of the Resurrected from her mind is with sex. Sex with Anthony and then sex with Mac after he rescued her. Something they both needed. When Mac shows up at the Synagogue, Anthony knows but he loves Kira enough to understand why and move forward and trusting Mac to get them all to safety.PICK ME UP by Lauren HawkeyeWell, I was a little confused with this story in "Hot and Haunted". That is, until the end. Ms. Hawkeye kept you on your toes throughout this little ditty. Brody finds Holly stranded during a torrential rain storm, almost hitting her with his car. But, was she really stranded, what is her end-game? Holly goes from hot to cold, sexy to embarrassed, sane then insane throughout the story. Brody is an optometrist, a little geeky and falling for the act that Holly is putting on.See, Holly's fiancee cheated on her (I think) so she is out looking to get her revenge on him with a stranger. Standing in the middle of the road with a white dress on, she plans on stopping the next vehicle that comes by - male or female - it didn't matter to her. Brody swerves to miss hitting her and ends up in a ditch. Taking Holly into the car starts her plan and her seduction. Everything ends with them rolling around in the mud, with Brody giving orders and Holly begging for more. But, was Brody set up, is she really who she says she is, is her fiancee really the one in the pick-up truck?Yes, this story is a real mind-f***! I'm still not sure what Holly was up to or if the stories she told Brody were real or not. The writing was clever and fast-paced and really had you thinking throughout. Aden is hinting at Dean being a werewolf - preparing her for what is to come. She's not convinced but becomes a little concerned when all the wolves start howling as they are making their way to the cabin in the whiteout. After a wonderful night in front of the fire, with Aden showing Miranda that "skin to skin is the best way to keep warm", all hell breaks lose. Dean has found them only after Miranda makes a big mistake in judgment. What happens is fast, furious and eye-opening to Miranda. But, what she still does not know is that she has been bitten 3 times.I loved "Little Red's Big Bad". It was witty, playful and fun. Ms. DeWylde kept the action moving and the sex hot and heavy making this quick, erotic read a real joy!Review copy provided for an honest review.

Three sexy, creepy stories to steam you up!Nothing Else Matters, by Megan Hart, is the story of Lira, a survivor of the apocalypse. The world has gone to hell and the only way Lira knows to escape the terror is through sex. Anthony, a fellow survivor, is the man she turns to when she needs to turn her brain off and her body on. The author did a fantastic job of writing very steamy and easy-to-visualize scenes. This story definitely makes me want to read more from Hart.Pick Me Up, by Lauren Hawkeye, was the story I was most excited to read. I am a huge fan of her book, My Wicked Gladiators, so my hopes were high. I did like this, but I spent the first chapter or so completely confused as to what was going on. Regardless of what the situation was, the sex was great, as I've come to expect from the author. Once the big shocker was dropped, the twist that made Pick Me Up so creepy, I was hooked. To read a story with alternating dread and being turned on was an interesting experience.Little Red's Big Bad was such a mind trip. It started out like a freaking scene from The Silence of the Lambs and I did NOT think I was going to enjoy it at all. But then the focus switched to Miranda and Aden, two Federal Agents trying to capture a serial killer. The scenes between these two were fantastic. Miranda was basically panting after Aden from the moment they meet, not even able to keep her hands off herself while thinking of him. OH, and I learned about an iPhone app that I never even dreamed existed! As you might have guessed, there were elements to Little Red Riding Hood, and I loved it! So even though Little Red's Big Bad started out iffy for me, the awesome sexual encounters and the surprise ending made me love it.Hot and Haunted is three short, sexy stories that will leave you surprised and breathless.
